Inhabited for over 4,000 years, since Aryan nomads arrived here, the traditions of modern-day Tajikistan have been influenced by a blend of cultures, most obviously from ancient Persia and Soviet Russia. Even today Tajiks speak Persian as their first language, the only state in Central Asia to do so.Â
