Located at the crossroads between East and West, for centuries the Caucasus has been a place where cultures come together - so much so that there is still no universal consensus as to whether they belong to Europe or Asia.

Intro

Historically, these small countries have had a turbulent past, with superpowers on all sides - Ottomans, Persians, Soviets - vying for control over this geographically strategic region. With the Black Sea to the West, the Caspian Sea to the East and dramatic mountainous terrains to the North, this is undoubtedly a region of pristine natural beauty. Following independence in 1991, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, all three countries have sought to reclaim their rich cultural heritage, which can be traced back millennia.

Georgia offers sublime mountains, ancient Christianity, a delicious cuisine and one of the world's oldest wine-making traditions. Armenia was the world's first Christian nation and boasts beautiful lakes and a fascinating history. Azerbaijan is an oil-producing, Muslim nation sharing a language with Turkey and a religion with Iran; today it is a complex but intriguing mix of antiquity and modernity.

We offer in-depth small group tours in each country as well as a combination tour of Georgia and Armenia over 12 days and a Best of the Caucasus tour which takes in the highlights of all three countries and showcases their differing personalities over 15 days.

Georgia presentation

We were delighted to have Sophie Ibbotson, tourism consultant to the Georgian Tourist Board, speak about Georgia as a travel destination. Her presentation covers some of the highlights of Georgia and its role as the birthplace of wine. She also explains why Tbilisi is her favourite capital in the world and why Georgia is also such a great foodie destination. Situated at the heart of the Caucasus region you will realise why you should perhaps consider Georgia as your next off the beaten track holiday.
