Head for the rolling hills of Kerala on this exciting tour of its tea and spice plantations. See how exotic spices like pepper, cardamom, nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger are grown, and how rubber is tapped from trees. Experience Kerala`s wilder side by taking a bamboo raft on Lake Periyar and experiencing a walking safari - looking out for elephants, bison, deer, monkeys and sloth bears. Head north to Munnar and take a walk through India`s most picturesque tea gardens. Your journey ends in the colonial city of Cochin. Discover its rich heritage on a walking tour of Fort Cochin and enjoy a sunset cruise through its harbour.

    Day 1

    Transfer from Cochin or Alleppey to Thekkady, the spice capital of India. Stop en-route at Kottayam for lunch at a homestay. Enjoy a walking tour of the owner’s spice and rubber plantations. Continue on to Thekkady. Evening free. Overnight in Thekkady. Meal plan: L

    Day 2

    Early morning wake up for tea/coffee, then set off for bamboo rafting on Lake Periyar. Jungle walk for 2-3 hours. Look out for local wildlife (elephants, deer, sloth bears). Return to lodge for lunch. Rest of day free – visit local bazaar, shop for spices. Overnight in Thekkady. Meal plan: B

    Day 3

    After breakfast leave for Munnar, the tea plantation capital of India. Check-in to your cottage at Ambady Estate (or similar). Lunch, then embark on walk of the surrounding hills. Evening free. Overnight in Munnar. Meal plan: B,L,D

    Day 4

    Breakfast followed by tour of tea plantation. Learn how tea is grown and processed. Lunch. Rest of day free (options include: visit local bazaar, additional walks). Dinner on premises. Overnight in Munnar. Meal plan: B,L,D

    Day 5

    After breakfast set off for the port city of Cochin. Check-in to hotel. Refresh and then set off on walking tour of Cochin (2 hours) wandering its narrow lanes encountering echoes of its colonial past. Dutch, Portuguese, Arabs and the British have all left their mark. Also visit one of India's few synagogues in Jew Street. Afternoon free. Sunset cruise on the harbour observing port life and Kerala's famous Chinese cantilever fishing nets. Evening free. Overnight in Cochin. Meal plan: B

    After breakfast, transfer to airport for flight to Mumbai and onward flight to end destination. Meal plan: B - END OF SERVICES –

    HOW TO BOOK YOUR TRAVEL THE UNKNOWN EXPERIENCE

    3. Secure your place and complete your booking

    Secure your place by sending a deposit of £100 (a holding deposit) and returning your booking form by email or by post. This will secure your place on the trip of your choice.

    The total deposit required will depend on the trip chosen but is typically 25-40% of the ground arrangements price plus the full cost of the international flight if you decide to book this with us. The final balance will fall due 10 weeks before your departure date.
